Additional information
Daniel (c.1821 – 1876) and Louise Peters (1828 – 1856)
Daniel and Louise (née Ziebell) Peters arrived in Australia in 1850 and married at Scots Church, Melbourne in 1851. They had three children — Julius, Louis and Henry — before her death in 1856, shortly after giving birth to Henry. By 1859, Daniel had become a bullock driver and on 15 December 1861 he was carting wool from the Jamieson River when he slipped and a wheel of his dray passed over his left knee. He was admitted to the Melbourne Hospital the following day, where his leg was amputated above the knee. After six months in hospital he returned home to Westgarthtown, where he remained until his death in 1876, aged 55.
