The Friends of Westgarthtown Inc. was formed in 1995 and incorporated in January 1996 to bring together those who care for Westgarthtown's German and Wendish heritage and its unique architectural and landscape assets in Thomastown, Melbourne.
Westgarthtown is a nationally and state-significant example of a surviving 19th century German village. The Friends of Westgarthtown focus on the protection, restoration and promotion of the bluestone farmhouses and outbuildings, the Thomastown Lutheran church, cemetery and reserve, and hold regular heritage events in partnership with the City of Whittlesea.
Who are Westgarthtown's Friends?
Our members include people with an interest in German-Australian history, architecture, culture and lifestyle; descendants of the original German and Wendish settlers; local Thomastown and Melbourne North residents; German-born Australians; and anyone who values Westgarthtown's heritage significance. Our newsletter is published twice a year and distributed to over 300 members and supporters.
Collaboration with the City of Whittlesea
Through the Thomastown Pioneer Precinct Committee, four executive members of the Friends of Westgarthtown work closely with the City of Whittlesea and the Thomastown Lutheran Church on the authenticity of architectural restoration, the ongoing maintenance of Ziebell's Farmhouse, outbuildings and garden, and the promotion of the precinct as a Melbourne North tourist destination.

Membership is $20 per year for individuals and $30 per year for families.
